The Future??

will it have a manual over ride for when (if) it goes wrong. Or will the rider have a long walk home

Interesting, esp the sequential shifting (but perhaps in a bad way).

Still not sure on the electronic shifting as a whole. So many false dawns on the road side over the years. Can't help but think the component manufacturers need to get it nailed down on the road first before the transfer off road.

is this something we really actually need?

Not on my 4 singlespeeds, at least.
And as all my non-SS bikes are retro, I won't be lashing this technological marvel onto any of them, either...

The Dure ace system has been running for a few years now , and very little issue .

some pros have even started to use it racing cyclo cross so it can resist mud and water .

DI-2 is an awesome bit of kit. Sure, you don't NEED it. Sure, it's still way overpriced.

But I don't think it's going to go away for a while and I don't think it'll be THAT long before we see a proper DI2 MTB group.
