The Future??

+1 :D I think its an amazing bit of kit, very cool. What I've read of DI2 has all been positive.

It's just a solution looking for a problem.

Personally, I think it's an application of technology that serves no real purpose, apart from it can be done.

As an analogy, I think the introduction of drive-by-wire throttles in cars makes more objective sense, than electronic gears on bikes - but then I still think electronic throttles often introduce more problems and complexities than they're worth- ditching the cable for entirely electronic actuation perhaps had some sense in terms of performance of the system, but in many implementations, introduced dealer dependence, inordinate failure rates (with such a critical control, too...), and expensive maintenance - and for the average driver, hardly much, if anything, in the way of realised benefits.

Hope it catches on. Can you imagine all the folks dumping their cabled stuff on Ebay. It'll be like the good old days when discs took off and XTR and other boutique Vs went for bobbins secondhand....BRILLIANT!

Well its not the future for any of my bikes.

agree with Agency_Scum boom time on ebay when they come to dump the cabled kit

What a load of old cobblers... Mud, grit, rain and 3 in 1 oil dont mix with electronics...

Ill stick with my old XT thanks.

I haven't had a car with with windows that go up and down by wire yet. :D

Of course it should be pointed out that none of the DI2 bikes I've had the pleasure of working on have been owned by people with racing licences. Like Pinarellos and Colnagos, still very much the domain of rich over-50s/over 100kgs who want to impress their mates, rather than anything bought by the really fast boys.

But nonetheless. It is lovely stuff to use.
