The Complete Cyclist

Blimey that Sturmey archer 3 speed takes me back a bit .........I was taught to take them apart and mend them by a guy called "Bunny" Adams at Cliff Pratt Cycles in Hull...

Feindishly difficult to get the mind around.

Bill Hughes at my old LBS in Wrexham used to take them apart in his sleep. I can still see him sat there with a tin full of tiny bits soaking in petrol to clean them. Half an hour later it would be working again.

I'm sure someone once told me he stripped one down and when he rebuilt it he had a couple of bits left over - and it still worked

Old Ned, you're right...must have been having a senior moment!

The Sturmy Archer illustrations reminded me of geared unicycle hubs, which I still can't get my head around either. The CAD animation doesn't help much, IMHO!

Ned..........time moved on in the 70's.....we used paraffin :) Presumably Esso Blue as "Smoke gets in your eyes" LOL

The illustrations are not CAD, ask anybody who did "tech Drawing" like me in the 60's and 70's LOL Hours and hours spent drawing things :(

A bit of tech drawing with some good old fashioned airbrushing!

The CAD remark was due to an animation I found, but it wouldn't link on here.

The only Cad we had in those days were the disreputable 'rotter' ex-public school types.
