It's that time again when the hardened LeManser scours the ferry crossing timetable and submits his ticket allocation request to the Automobile Club L'ouest to once again make the pilgrimage to what is the greatest sporting event on earth. The annual Grand Prix d'endurance has taken place at the historic Circuit La Sarthe since 1925 and is one of lifes 'must do's'.
In recent years I have noticed that I'm not the only RB member to have fallen under the spell and it has indeed become an annual event for a few. So next year I thought it might be a good idea to get ourselves organised and get together as a group.
Making use of my contacts both here and in France, I can get camping tickets for the hallowed ground of Maison Blanche. All I need at this point is an idea on numbers. You will have to sort your own travel and get your own race tickets at the gate on the day. Maison Blanche is THE best campsite for the big race- it has the best atmosphere, is close to the grandstands and is right at trackside. Camping pitches will be big enough for a car and a tent and will be within our own enclave with electricity, showers, BBQ and freezer for those all important cold beers.
This is not for profit- tickets will be at face value. I'm doing this for a few people who have expressed a desire to go to the big race but have been a little daunted with the many options available. I'm also happy to help with ferry crossings and any other enquiries. As an extra bonus I'm going to organise a guided tour around the Aston Martin Racing Gulf team pits on the Friday afternoon- a rare treat indeed!
Ticket prices have not been announced yet but expect to pay around 90euro per pitch. I will be putting in the order mid October so if you would like to come along and watch the greatest race on earth with your Retrobike buddies please let me know as soon as possible. The dates are 9-12th June 2011, so please check your diary before committing.
See you in Le Sarthe
