the < 22lb steel club

A lot of the 'mountain' biking I have done involves carrying, and lifting over obstacles.

Lower weight certainly helps with this.

Often sporting a rucksack.

But I veer on the usability side of things, rather than super lightweight.

This 97 Psyclone's SS frame is the only one ever built with horizontal dropouts and is under 21 even with heavy rubber. With no derailleurs, cassette, outer and inner rings and shifters it's pretty easy to be under 21.

my 95 db apex came in at 24.5lbs out of the box with lx kit so sub 22 was easy.

in ss guise it came in at 19lbs with conti twisters.

Fat 10th, XTR, Ringle, DD, nothing really special light and its under 21lb. Rides lovely, quick, fast, great bike.

I re-read the thread ( always missing bits ) and " We_are_stevo " made a brilliant point that our club's become obsessed about. On our thread we called it " Losing weight the reasonable way. " Like he and others said, anyone can lop bits off and/or use boutique parts but if I did that it'd snap!
CCE's a club member and ( like him ) I've got my 20" Kilauea down to 22lbs but with regular parts that won't snap. I use a 2X7 set up for convenience, not weight saving.
