the < 22lb steel club

I've slipped back on the weight a teeny bit by removing the superlight Gripshifters and fitting DX thumbies. They just feel soooo good and ( as CCE will soon realise ) are the BEST shifters for nightrides being the only ones you can " feel " what gear you're in. Granted a headtorch can light up your bars but who wants to take their eyes and lights off the trail on a fast nightride?

my winter SS gear will go on soon, and then i'll have no such issues

Definitely going to fit the VERY renovated Syncros titanium BB when I get the chance. Needed lots of love ( and filing and mole grips and vice work ) but well worth the tenner I paid for it at the Bike Jumble.

my Muddyfox Monarch comes in at 21.94. I have a 48t outer chain ring that took the weight to just over the 22lb target, but then i got a 38 for the front with the intention of running it as a double. I think 38 – 11 should be high enough for most circumstances. Once the stem & quill bolt have been shortened and seat post and other bolts looked at there are some bar ends to go on, or the 3rd ring will go on if i really can't live as a double. Quite happy as not a “boutique” part in sight. will only get lighter as the right parts come up. Frame came in at 1.8kg btw.

A lot of the 'mountain' biking I have done involves carrying, and lifting over obstacles.

Lower weight certainly helps with this.

When I was chased across a field by a heard of bullocks, I somehow found the strength to lob 25lbs of bike over a gate and myself after it. :D
