Just wondering, how does Tange tubing compare to Reynolds? or is it all relative and each has it's uses?

Reynolds had better decals.

(sorry :P )

Reynolds sounds better! Tange sounds like it's related to an Orange and not the bike kind

Reynolds is easier to understand, the bigger the number, the better the tubing, but Tange made stripy tubing, which looks cool:

I've had frames made of both and they both have that nice springy steel frame feel, even the cheap and relatively heavy Claud Butler frame I have which is made from Reynolds entry level Cr-Mo tubing main tubes, rear triangle and forks were plain high tensile steel, feels quite nice to ride.

My 531 Magnum (PI?) Claud Butler was heavy and not really any good but another 531 MTB frame that I have is really light and responsive.

As with all things, its in the hands of the designer and builder.

I have Reynolds Optima Lite on my M-Trax but no idea what this tubing is

interestingly (well.....) when I was at the bicycle academy recently i learned that it doesnt in fact rhyme with 'flange',but is pronounced 'tang-gay'.where's them biscuits...

Nicest feeling bike I've ridden was a 1990 Diamondback Axis made from Tange Prestige. Only bike that is nicer than my ti bike.

There's Colombus and True Temper too with high steel quality tubes…
I own bikes built with Tange prestige tubing (Ferraroli and Ritchey) weld with 2 different technology classic lugs for the Ferraroli and Tig and filled brased for the Ritchey. They are light, comfortable and give good feelings, near titanium. But seems to lose thair quality with time.
Colombus and True Temper were more stiff. For exemple, my Fat Chance Yo Eddy is hard, in contrast with the Ritchey.
A different philosophy. But the geometry and design could change a lot of things

For Reynolds, I only own my old father road bike with 531. One of my favorite, I think near Tange. But I don't know its quality on mtb

It's perhaps a little unfair to lump all of one manufacturer's product against another, for instance I would take Tange Ultimate UltraStrong over Reynolds 501 and Reynolds 753 over Tange Infinity. Both produced (and still do) great tube sets, but as 24" above points out, so did (and do) Columbus and True Temper.

Snr Queso also correctly identifies the fact that a builder (quality of construction, selection of appropriate tubes, understanding of their properties will make a greatet difference than pitching one tube against another.

In my experience the high end vintage tube offerings from Reynolds and Tange make great riding bikes, but Bontrager's ride fantastic despite not having a 'high-end' tube set, it's partly down to the geometry.

FWIW, my modern MTB is Reynolds 853, my modern road bike is Reynolds 653 and my vintage MTBs are: 753 ATB; Tange Prestige; True Temper 4130; Columbus/Reynolds mix; Reynolds 531 ATB select.
