Hope C2 are a closed system so you do need to adjust them, most (if not all) modern hydraulic brakes are open systems so self adjust.
I've used Hayes nines, good power, but no modulation
2 sets of Hope Mono Mini's, ('04 & '07) good power with good modulation
Avid Juicy 3, ok power, very mushy lever feel
Shimano LX, ok power, ok modulation
I have heard very good things about the Formula Oro K series from a lot of their users & the mags rate them too.
Rotors: 180mm up front with 160mm out back is enough for most riders most of the time.
