Talk discs to me

Hope C2 are a closed system so you do need to adjust them, most (if not all) modern hydraulic brakes are open systems so self adjust.

I've used Hayes nines, good power, but no modulation

2 sets of Hope Mono Mini's, ('04 & '07) good power with good modulation

Avid Juicy 3, ok power, very mushy lever feel

Shimano LX, ok power, ok modulation

I have heard very good things about the Formula Oro K series from a lot of their users & the mags rate them too.

Rotors: 180mm up front with 160mm out back is enough for most riders most of the time.

Seems not many people have used the Shimano disc ranges. Is it because it's one thing you can buy that doesn't have to be Shimano or because Shimano ones are crap even the XT and XTR ones ?

Nowadays you can build a shimano free bike quite easily,i think most here used hope and are quite happy to stick to them, hence nobodys tried them
I thing the early XT 4 pot was grimeca rebranded,i dont think it had much of a rating even then
Im willing to give the deore ones a go if it can get a pair cheaply enough
CRC,seem to have the best deals on new, probably better getting a new set to best judge

i've had both m4's (old cnc ones and newer black/gold ones) and both were really good . i now use the hope 6-pots with 9" discs and they are cracking , never faded or broke on me

also i have a set of hayes hfx9's and they are not as crisp as the ti6's but for xc riding would be perfect...

if you buy 2nd hand then it's just your luck i guess :D

I see they have an avid juicy 5 for only £100 for both sets, thats far cheaper that i was expecting for a new set of discs
I think the c2's were about £280 when i first got them

I'm running the latest XTR M970 discs on a couple of bikes and really like them, levers are a good shape, power is good only problem is the mineral oil is badly affected by cold weather causing them to pump up,gonna put some DOT fluid brakes on for this winter

.

I've got XT965(dual control) on my RM, they work very well. The dual control shifting took a little bit of getting used to but I really like it now.

The xtr stuff is usually beyond my budget,im likely to choose hope or avid over shimano stuff though i see mbt.com reviews and rates the xtr quite well.
I dont thing i could go for a duel shifter when its on discs, anything going wrong would render the whole unit fit only for the bin.

I do like the juicy 5's and its a good price for my budget 8) ,anyone tried them for any period of time?
