The green stuff in the red tub. It sure as hell gets grease off the hands in double quick time. Is it safe to use directly on components to remove grease when cleaning things up or is it known to be corrosive at all?

I was planning on using it on an XT rear mech which is caked in old grease. Thought I'd check.

Thanks guys.

PS. I hope to start making more meaningful contributions to the forum soon. All depends on if I can snag a bike :D

I would have thought if good for skin then good for alloys and stuff., Never thought of using it.

Hmm I'd have thought white spirit would take off the paint/decal...cleans my gloss brushes....

I however, bow to your superior knowledge. Still tempted to try swarfega though if its known to be non corrosive.

I thought it might do a good job because its sticky. You can paint it on and leave it without it running off all the time. Chris says white spirit and Im certainly not going to disagree as it works, I'd just be worried about leaving things soaking in it, especially anodized surfaces.

Citrus de greaser is what i use for the caked on stuff. Halfuds own brand is good - particularly as they are doing 2 for 3 on bike care/cleaning/tools

Swarfega usually has grit in it to aid clean your hands, i'm sure this may scratch delicate aluminium.

Agree with above, I use white spirit or diesel to break down the grease then then rinse with soapy water to wash the muck off, gets everything squeaky clean :D
