After all the comments, im now sided with trade it or sell it.

Its nice but you say your not a massive moto head just like to ride. How much will you really miss it?

i have the potential to be a bit of a moto head, but the limitations of the bike doesn't really give me the opportunity.

the reason it's a bit sentimental is that the bike used to belong to a friend, he had the engine upgraded, then he stripped the entire bike so he could get the chassis painted, when he got it back he couldn't rebuild it, for several reasons the main being lack of skill!

cut to 10 years later i was working at GA cycles, and gary the owner was a big BSA goldstar fan and still is, i said i'd like to get back on a motorbike, next thing i knew gary was handing over the money to my mate to buy it and rebuild it for me as a bonus/present for doing a bucket load of hard work. it took about 3 years to get it sorted as my mate had made a right pigs ear of it as he tried and failed to do an enduro conversion, no clocks/indicators/big tank etc, he also played with the wiring loom aswel.

but eventually it was sorted and almost back to original condition and the engine had only done about a 500 miles since being stripped so when we built it it needed completely bedding in.

that's why it's sentimental for me.

I think the (arse) bandit will be more limiting to the amount of fun you can have.
All you can really do on it is wheelies in every gear,endoes,and high speed,the DR should be so much more fun for throwing around,dropping on it's ear then roaring off in another direction,it's like the difference between an explosif and I dunno,something really crap.

If the fork seals are 'weeping' check that it's just the seals and not the fork stanchions that are pitted...

...you can bodge pitted stanchions with Araldite but not when you're swapping for a decent bike in top notch condition.

Other than that I'd go with a Bandit, Hornet or Fazer if you want summat reliable that'll keep up with your mates...

Reckon you're right,but it's gonna be easier to learn to do it on the DR off-road.

Or maybe just MTFU,nail the bandit,and see how it goes.

there is a list of all things i don't and wouldn't do on the DR or a bandit.

you must ride like a nutcase, i don't.

and if bandits are crap why do so many people have them?

The Bandit is fine. If you're looking to ride all day on the road with your buddies, it will do the job without any fuss. Much better for the purpose than the DR. Fork seals are an hour job start to finish, and it never hurts to put in some fresh oil.


Now, if you were to come across a RC8R in your travels, you could spend the day embarrassing your buddies, but I digress.
