2. Despite what you might think, it wasn't aimed at US members. It was merely a bit of subtle humour, after another comment by Dr S in the BOTM thread that was direct reply to LGF - and it was merely countering the perspective that (effectively) we'd better keep you guys from the US sweet, or you'd all leave, and retrobike would go to the dogs.

Completely wrong. It wasn't a comment aimed at LGF alone, rather than those who had jumped on the bandwagon along side him, with the same 'Us versus Them' bullshit that this thread, and so many others had descended into.
I did point out that in that thread we were alienating some US members who bring many gifts to the table- Knowledge, insight, help sourcing parts, etc, etc. It matters not where they come from, the point i was trying to make is that good contributors to this site were being picked apart and bullied for having a different point of view.
Now, personalities aside, like them or not, the people contributing to this thread should be respected for their knowledge, commitment to sourcing and restoring some of the finest and rarest of bikes, and therefore should be respected as such, even if their manners are not 'English' enough for our tastes.

And yeah, without such contributors, Retrobike would indeed go to the dogs.

I didn't say it was - I said it was in direct reply to LGF - it was, read the thread.

"bullied"?

Look at this thread - something interesting, and now the pictures have been deleted - all because one individual had to foist his ego.

That is the true shame, here - and people who make comments that instigate such removal should be ashamed of themselves. Whatever posted was doing them no harm, and they could post and discuss anything better that they choose to in a different thread.

There's simply no need for it.

If it was of so little interest to them, why would they bother - unless it was all about ego?

Well opinions vary.

I read plenty of valid, interesting threads about bikes that are neither fuelled by experts, or about exotica. YMMV.

What you and them seem to fail to grasp, is that there's room for both. That inclusion can happen, without having to p1ss on lamp-posts about threads or bikes that appear to hold no interest for some people, other than to try and be too-cool-for-school by being derisory, and presumably attempting to be aloof and elitest.

There you go

Agreed that the hyena comment is indeed bang on

And I am one of those whose leapt onto the dying carcass of this thread, guilty as charged

Not because I want to tear into American people in an us and them battle, but because I wanted to see that bikes and save the thread, making a point about what had killed it in the first place

What a n00b I am for asking to see the pics back on this thread! LGF so much did the right thing, pull the pics, get out clean, let everyone else squabble over the carcass

That's got to be the end of this now surely?

If only that were true. There is so much inverse snobbery and anti- elitist attitude here these days, folk using every opportunity to snub their noses up at higher end machines. The fact that a Kona can defeat a Cunningham in bike of the month just underlines the general turning of the tide.

I'm tired of all the bickering. Time for a rest. Enjoy yourselves.

If any of our UK members are thinking about a Wicker Man style cull of their American content on the back of this thread you're more then welcome to send it in my direction (especially any Fats). If our US chums are thinking the same my sister lives in Madison so I can PM the address.

Happy days in old bike land again.

I'm off to bed now as i want to get up early and ride a bicycle in the morning, find some nice trails, listen to the birds in the trees, maybe even catch deer by the waterside again like last week, put all the bullshit of life on hold for just an hour or so. Hopefully with a little sunshine thrown in for good measure.

I suggest you all go and do the same. Get a little perspective.

Sweet dreams.

What a difference a day makes....

And the difference is...

How is that any more than people voting for what they prefer?

How is that not giving room for both?

How is that denying inclusion?

I'll tell you.

Quite simply it's not
