In very good condition given that they are approximately 20 years old.

I believe rear thumb shifter can be adjust to be used with either a 7 speed or eight speed cassette. You may be able to use it un-indexed with a 9 or 10 speed cassette too?

Some slight marks from use and small signs of corrosion (see clamp of LH shifter on pic), but apart from that they're pretty much as new. I'm sure you could dissemble the shifter and repaint the corroded area and have it looking like new again.

Do they have "f" "7" and "8" ?

They have 'F' and '7'. F is past the 7, which leads me to believe it'll pull more cable and therefore allow for an 8th gear? Could be wrong, these are pre my introduction to mountain biking.

they are friction and 7 speed only 7 to 8 speeders have a "7" & an "8" marked for 8 speed indexing.

natch as i want some 8 speeders

I have run these with a 9sp cassette without problems, in friction mode.

These have the "hidden" 8th click. I have always used them indexed on 8 speed shimano stuff.

Better than XT ones in my eyes
