Wot happened to fat bikes

I'm currently having my second winter of ,2025 in Australia but have been unable to find a quality fat bike to buy second hand :( Went Nordic ski touring instead.

I'm sat browsing the web and waiting for a delivery of Lekkie bike parts to bring back to the UK in a couple of weeks......for my ICT e conversion. :)

Decent snow up Thredbo way at the moment. I have been trying to ride through the NSW winter (albeit not on a fattie) but there have been some very bike-unfriendly weeks this year.

I don't put many miles on my fat bike (rigid 26" wheel Specialized FatBoy) but it's an absolute hoot to ride - it's the bike version of a monster truck. I tow my kids around in their sleds and ride with them while they cross country ski in the winter. It's just as fun in the summer as a change from a dedicated XC bike.

Mine is a 1x10 and geared low, so even though it's relatively heavy with high rolling resistance, it feels easy to pedal. You just never get going quite as fast as you would on an XC bike. The traction on sketchy climbs is also obscene.

I was out and about on the Pugsley here in the north of Scotland on the weekend.
Still a great riding bike, built it up from frame a long time ago now back in 2011/2012. I am going to build a new set of wheels next month for it as the rear hub is shot so picked up some Holy Darylls and will get a couple of rear XT hubs.
Heading into autumn here so always see's more use once the weather turns.
