Looks pretty standard bar the grips, saddle and stem. Lovely bikes these… if I was close I’d snap it up especially with those original forks and head badge!

Sunn is such a neglected brand in my view. Max Commencal left Sunn and went on to design some of the most capable DH bikes of the 2000s ... and they still are winning in the hands of the top ten riders (they will get over the recent thoughtless gaff of Aumary Peirron). Max’s designs whilst at Sunn used steel in such a thoughtful and capable way - they are very light, compliant and fast-riding frames. Sunn began to stretch toptubes and shorten seat tubes before many of the other large producers, giving excellent climbing and racing capability to the bikes. Some lovely bespoke details too ... gorgeous forged dropouts with Sunn logo, great chain and seatstay curving, and of course mental head badges. They were made to ride on the toughest of terrain, and ride fast. Personally, I think that they are real head-turners, due to the fine detailing and the excellent ride characteristics. But they were always niche, and I think in the retro-community too small to be well known, but too big to be regarded as collectible boutique bikes. An Orange C16R against the equivalent Sunn would seem to be a tractor against a dedicated rally car. My affection for Oranges was very much based in their domestic origins (I like local production and talking to the people who make the things I ride) but I could easily have been drawn into Sunn as a preferred brand....they were good. Very good.

I’ve never owned one but always keep an eye out for a bargain in my size
