as a tip, i you didn't do it. Put a wide pin though it first with a nice sharp end. shapr pointed sewing needle/optical pins. somting about a 1mm wide. It help guide and not tear the valve as the footballpump needle can 'core' the vavle creating a big ole and/or rupture the end.
I've found on Mags (same valve) if you do it out of the bike and then have a craft knife and romove a shallow cone from the exit hole it pretty much stops tearing, but that might be a mag thing as it rests at that point on the needle hole in the adjuster rod.
The PSST you hear should just be the air from the pump itself

and not from the fork so sound good.
