Sun cr18 rims - good, bad, ugly?

What do the good folk of rb know about sun cr18 rims?

Any info, experience, knowledge appreciated.

These will be going on the pace laced to nuke proof hubs, and I'm in a dilemma as I bought some retro wtb rims yesterday so which would a) be generally a better rim, and b) suit the pace?

they came on my klein ian.....ive ran them for 3 years on it, my cannondale and now my ss dyna tech......running true and no complaints.....stickers a little faded but they are 20 years old!....

If you are a clydesdale or drive in the winter / muddy then they are no go otherwise they are fine

I would say they're a bit hum drum for Nuke Proof hubs, but maybe less so than WTB rims. The CR18 was cheaper than the CR17 and it's pinned, so maybe the CR17 was welded. So maybe it's like Mavic 221 quality, rather than 517. My CR18s are on LX hubs and came with a 1997 RM Equipe, whereas the Blizzard that year had CR17s on XT. The pinning/join on mine is better than a Mavic though, so I'm not saying there's any problem with them, but they're not bling if bling is what you wanted.

Thanks for the info, food for thought. Would be intersted in your thoughts on what rim would suit the nuke proof hubs as I'm not versed in such things. Other parts yes, rims are a blind spot as I've only ever had to replace one in my life.

wouldnt call them humdrum at all. I have them laces to an m900 rear and ringle front, very nice, good quality and i think will compliment the nuke proofs.

well, you own them, they are a quality rim that wont look out of place against the hubs you have. but they might not be blingy enough for some but they certainly would not look odd against your hubs, im also assuming both the hubs and rims are black? It will look good and perform well.

Thanks again. I don't own a set yet, on a consideration list. Bought some retro wtb speedmaster rims recently and have cognitive dissonance so if people rate the sun rims more highly then I may go for it.

well, they're built in the USA, if that means anything. I am assuming the nuke proofs are also USA made. Don't know about the wtb's
