sugino cranks and chainrings.

Yes it's a triple, and it looks like a compact drive to me, and judging from the tape measure. i.e., probably made for 42/32/22 rings, 94 bcd big ring. Middleburn cd 5-arm rings are easily available from Chain Reaction.

Those look like Sugino Impel cranks. Cast aluminum and compact drive. They are not the most sturdy by any means, but they are good, serviceable, Deore LX grade cranks. Impels were very common on mid level Konas, Pro Flexes and Cannondales back in the day, and were even branded as Girvin or CODA in some cases.

Not bad stuff...Clean them up and ride them. :D

Yes, the castings seem as clean / smooth around the back as on the front.

The ritchey for the marin was nos and the camera won't catch it but it has kind of got a pearl / petrol on water / cd style finish.

Does yous not have ritchey markings on it anywhere ? I 'think' they were the first to do the hidden fifth bolt, not sure if they let sugino carry it on in future though ?

Quite a few Sugino models features the hidden 5th bolt. Not just the stuff pumped out for Ritchey.

It could be one of these? CD 42/32/22

Have some of these on my Marin Mount Vision. Very good cranks IMHO, you will have to chose the chain rings with care. The bolt holes are in a different alignment to Shimano (the hidden bolt hole mentioned earlier). If you try chain rings designed for Shimano cranks the tag to stop the chain jamming between the crank and big ring is not lined up with the crank. Easily fixed, I used Middleburn chain rings and drilled out the little tag to remove it.
