Afternoon folks,

Bear with me on this one....

I have an active subwoofer that's controls and connections do not look dissimilar to this chap:

Could I use a 3.5mm to RCA lead (like below) to take a feed from a headphone socket into the sub:

Then use the speaker out terminals to run some smaller satellite speakers effectively creating a 2.1 setup? :?

Would this work? I'm hoping the speaker out terminals on mine would "output " a higher than subwoofer range negating the need to use anything bookshelf size.

All help much appreciated

the amplification built into the sub is for the sub only, there is no provision to power an external set of speakers.

Also, the output from your 3.5mm cable would be filtered via the sub's crossover creating lots of bass but sod all else.

You need a separate amplifier to power the speakers. Anything with a modest output will do as it goes into those black/ red connectors then back to the speakers.

Or, an amp with a separate sub output. Loads of cheap surround amps have these.

Connect your existing amp to the sub as belooooooow for sub woofer bassynessness

Ah I see.

No quick work around then

Just wanted some computer speakers cobbled together with what I already had and not using my separates.

BTW did you still want that frame? Heading passed Huntingdon next Friday if thats any help?

Cool! you have PM

*****EDIT***** I have a spare dinky 'lill pre-amplifier that can send the audio to your PC speakers and also to your sub...

Actually if the sub looks like the back of the one in the picture, then you DO have provisions for outputting a signal to a set of small satellite speakers. But do do so, you need to send a speaker level signal, not a line level signal, which is the type that you get out of the headphone jack/RCA cable.
