step down ferrules for BL-M733 levers

Anyone used these thingies before? The ones I bought (off eBay but allegedly Dia-Compe) don't fit snugly in the barrel adjusters, thus completely failing to solve the problem they're meant to solve. I'd be grateful for any hints and tips.

Thats exactly what i used from venhill.....only because we had loads of brake and clutch stuff in the workshop! But yes....they did work. Its not perfect into the adjuster, buts its very good into each other and certainly loads better than having it flapping about.

You could just use big 2mm cables....like they were designed for.....motorbike stuff works well if you dont want to pay silly money for original kit.

Here's a few shots from the cave.

I simply went to my LBS and showed him the problem. He pulled open a drawer and located some barrel adjusters that had the correct thread for the XT levers and fit modern cables. Works like a treat, except for 2 small issues :
- the thread is only about 2/3 as long as that on the XT adjusters. Not really an issue for regular use, you just need to be a bit more precise when initially setting up the brakes. And if the cable were to stretch a lot, you'll need to get the wrenches out sooner than you would with the original adjuster.
- the size and diameter of the lockring and head are smaller than the original XT ones, resulting in the rubber dust boots being a lot more loose. I have yet to see them work their way off the adjuster on their own, so IMO it's not really an issue.

At some point I'll probably take the XT adjusters to a machine shop and ask them to make exact copies but with a smaller inner diameter. Can't be that expensive.

So the Venhill ferrules arrived and they work an absolute treat. The fit is a bit loose with standard Shimano ferrules, but very good with the slightly oversize ones which come with the TRP compressionless housing I’m using.
