steerer a wee bit too short..who wings it?

oh, and im currently running a fairly low stack height ritchey stem (2 bolt) but my try a single bolt one like the Salsa, or possibly try and find a lower stack one.

Personally if I couldn't find another pair of forks with the correct length steerer I'd get an additional length of steerer tube welded on.

Not sure if you can switch the top cap on a headlock, but if you want to try, I've a couple kicking about in my spares box.

I'd switch to a Thompson or Syncros (as we're retro) stem which use an internal clamp in the middle of the stem, you can get away with shorter steerer tubes with them. Easton used to do one with a vertical wedge clamp that would let you get away with even more.

thanks for the advice guys, there are some good suggestions for me to try out.
does anyone have a length of steel steerer they could send me?!

Ill also look into the headlock solution. Can I use a standard top cap on one of these? (King for example)

I don't think you can change the top cap, as the Headlock uses a bolt with a larger head than the usual 4-5mm ones.

You might be able to use another top cap with it, but the bolt proably won't sit flush and it might look a bit untidy.

after all your great advice I have managed to get my hands on a replacement fork, same fork with longer steerer.

thanks anyway guys, im sure ill be trying out a couple of those methods some day

My Zaskar has carbon forks with short threaded steerer so I got a quill adaptor from Halfords.

So I have carbon forks, a lightweight Control Tech stem.... held together with a hefty lump of metal.... BUT IT LOOKS COOL !!!!

Do it properly.
