Wrap around seat stays are kind of neat, but did they have a function (added strength/rigidity) or was it just quicker to bend the metal around the seat tube?

My Falcon San Remo (Track and Road) had flattened wrap round seat stays same as the below, Falcon said it was for rigidity but was more of a tradememark than anything else.

Carlton generally used the wrapround for Tru-Well tubes and not for 531.

Holdsworth Pro of my era had wrap round as well, again a trademark............ latterly taken over by Rourke.

Lovely examples there… but I guess these chaps were much more expensive than the Raleighs/Suns that had the ordinary bent metal look?

The Raleigh Gran Sport of the 60's wasn't a cheap bike BITD. The first wrap around style that I can think of. I think it was probably harder to manufacture than pinning the seat stays to the seat lug?
