So... what's your choice of grease for bearing packing, then

First time I serviced some hubs, in the early 90s, something I'd read (probably in MBUK at the time) persuaded me that some fancy, white, bearing grease would be best - not sure it was, truth be told.

Ever since, I've used Castrol LM for any bike-related-grease-nonsense.

So, pop-pickers, what's your poison when it comes to bearing packing?

I use halfords general purpose grease or sometimes shell alvania. Not really that fussed. The halfords stuff is free for me to use and the shell was given to me.

This is the best stuff I've ever used.

black cv joint grease, never failed :D

Just because it was the closest to hand, I packed a headset with this stuff last night. Think I'll stick with it, if it's good for CV joints for 100k then it must be good enough for any bearing on a bike.

bought some when i was a lad from a motorfactors in crownhill at plymouth, think it lasted in my bike toolbox for 15 or so years, pushed it down the pot a bit came outta hole in the middle, saved having to get loads, remember it having quite a few bearings rolling around it.

bloody cheap too, i got it with paper round money
