So... what's your choice of grease for bearing packing, then

black cv joint grease, never failed :D
Just because it was the closest to hand, I packed a headset with this stuff last night. Think I'll stick with it, if it's good for CV joints for 100k then it must be good enough for any bearing on a bike.
Is that a generic name for it - and is it available at motor factors, and, say, places like, um, Halfords?

Think I can get away with saying Halfords just once, but saying Halfords 3 times in one post is likely to invoke Candyman... bzzt <NO CARRIER>

Recently gone onto prop shaft grease used for outboard motors. The most gooey sticky unwashable stuff to date.

Translated:
"Mineral oil based grease containing calcium / lead-soap as a thickening agent and so-called EP-additives, which provide good water resistance. Contains rust and oxidation-resistant additives and are mechanically stable"

There's also a blessing from SKF about some standard....

Weldtite lithium grease for me, seems to work a treat on needle-roller Stronglight & Miche headsets.

rock and roll super slick and rock and roll super webbing for me  before that used to use the old type finishline lithium grease the clear vasaline looking one before they changed it too the crap they produce now also used and like silkolene purple outboard grease really good stuff but they put the price up huge amounts so using rock and roll now

Bitd it was some black sticky stuff in a push tube (Black Gold ?), now it is whatever I can get my hands on, as grease is grease is grease when it comes to light duty bicycles. Currently my headset bearings are running in copper grease and only that, because it was the nearest tin open, though I have used vaseline before now.

Green dura-ace grease - damn, Knew there was something I forgot to order this morning.
Need links for all these wonderful options.

I'll probably still stick with the old faithful of Castrol LM, but all these other ones look interesting.
