So left out

Not sure which camp I belong in, but here goes

Had an Orange or two and three Kona's, but no Pace or GT. Also owned Marin,Breezer and Alpinestars, but my long term rides have all been Specialized old and new, still my favourites now.

Always wanted one of the nice Ti bikes though and if all goes well will hopefully become the owner of a 1993 Merlin later on today.

Only personal preference and haven't actually liked some of the above from a riding point of view, but no matter what all bikes rock don't they? :D

Back in the day I owned Marins & Konas...mainly because I couldnt afford a Pace...Now Ive grown and developed a reasonable disposable income I have been able to buy 2 Pace's that I have dribbled over for the past 14/15 years. (And also have an Orange clockwork/recently had an Orange O2)

Im not supprised niether of them are heard of that much in the US, niether orange or Pace are anything like the mass production runs of GT/trek/kona and the likes. Pace certainly are not mass production, Ive no idea how many they made a year but im sure its a tiny percentage of what GT/trek pumped out... probably talking low hundreds rather than high HIGH thousands.

Pace are mentioned here a lot precisely because its a UK site, and its what all the UK kids grew up dreaming they could own more so than others because they stood out from the crowd design wise.

Hmmm.. Orange/Kona.. err looks like i'm one of them. :|

I ride Orange cause they are manufactured in the UK (the high end ones made in Halifax) and they are built for UK conditions. I think that its important to support UK manufacturing, especially when they are producing world class products.. (which isn't always the case!!) Its a shame that there aren't more of them over the other side of the pond..

Always fancied a Yeti or a Rocky Mountain though...

Just found this http://www.fundinguniverse.com/company- ... story.html

In 1995 Trek opened a plant capable of manufacturing 3500 cycles per day.

The approximate number of bikes made by pace in total are:

RC100 x 450
RC200 x 1875
RC300 x 710
Total = 3035

Trek can produce more bikes in a day than pace ever made (in the square tubed designs, I cant imagine the new frames are that much different)

(figures from pace-listed in the Official retrobike Pace frame number thread http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewto ... t&start=60 )

I suspect GT and Kona are closer to Treks production numbers than Pace's, and Orange are probably closer to paces.

I'm a regular on here and a brit and I have never owned the orange/pace/kona trio. I actually favour USA kit for mtb purposes having owned Specialized and Schwinn in the past.

Just remember the slogan above 'If its old school its in' no secret handshakes or knowing winks needed.

Cheers :D

Absolutely!

i help set the site up and own none of the brnads you mention. Think its obvious why orange and pace are popular with the site being mainly uk centric. As for konas popularity i have no idea...

OWNED

Well i've NEVER owned an Orange or Pace - but am about to purchase my first Kona - a Ti one at that ! My first bike was a Muddy Fox - which i shattered my elbow on - with the insurance money i bought a Cannondale SM600 .... which led to a Salsa ala Carte .... a Marin Indian Fire Trail ( i only sold the Salsa last year ) a Wicked Fat Chance ( i still have ) a Klein Attitude , an Ibis Mojo hand-job which i have just sold ... and finally a Carrera Fury hmmmmmm ........ i hae ALWAYS wanted a Mountain Goat - so if they are common in the States one of you nice chaps can send me one over cuz i've never owned one !

What is this mud and rain you speak of?

I am in the land of extreme downhill among other things like some of the most wicked singletrack around. The least technical riding around here can easily send beginners to the ER, just like I like it. Luckily it is so rocky that when it rains you can sometimes get BETTER traction because the dust is rinsed from the rocks on some trails. Also no erosion issues on solid rock.
Yeah, that and raging brushfires! I like how the trails show up like skeletons. 8)
