Maybe a suggestion for a BoTM low end special, thus letting the sites real builders flex their muscles.

Quite how you define 'low-end' for a BOTM might be tricky, but something similar was run back in April 2007 as an unofficial BOTM (although the winner was still honoured with a place on the home page):

It also went to show that really great bikes were out there and weren't prohibitively expensive:

Would have to Submit my Muddyfox Seeker Mega then (would the DX STi's disqualify it?????) a I am a fan of the low end cheap stuff.
I can appreciate the exotica but there is some real history and heritage in the low end kit that we spent our teenage years on.

Carl.

Its a sad day when people won't enter BOTM because their bike is not 'exotic'. My first BOTM winner last year was a £250 build. A keen eye, careful componant choice, good presentation and a good pic is more important than deep pockets. I always vote for the bike I like, it can be a Mustang, its very rarely the most valuable bike in the pot.

£250??? I dream of being able to spend that amount

I dont think BoTM has much to do with it although the posh stuff can crowd out the notsoposh stuff.

We all had to start somewhere. In the same way a standard mark1 escort could be turned into a rally winner, a race could be won with a cheap Marin or Trek with the right attitude.

Yeah but do you know how much work went into turning that Mk1 into a winner? Back in 72 a standard escort would cost around a grand. Turning it into a group four rally car cost another £15,000.

Nah - just 4 Cibe lights and a big exhaust and you had a rally winner!

LGF I support you and your basic bike stuff, i've still got that Falcon pathfinder you sold me and it cozy's up to a Spesh hardrock and a Raleigh Alaska in my shed.

Never really owned exotica and seldom spend £25 on a frame or complete bike let alone £250

I reckon we should have a cheap bikes meet someday, bikes from near the bottom of manufacturers lines need only apply :D

Also a scary thought Big Eck from on here is taking part in the Kielder Marathon 50km race on a near mint Raleigh Massif. Now thats showing the exotica boys how its done
