I am learning a lot this week. There was a chap in Emmerdale a moment ago who was sat talking to himself, and he pulled a can from his pocket. Thank god it was empty!

Kids, it is OK. You can all come out of the sensory deprivation tank, it was an empty can!

Seems all of these soaps focus on the 'pub' as the hub of each community.

Is that realistic, or just an easy way to get a number of characters in one place?

I go to the pub maybe twice a week, and that is more or less as often as people I know my age.

My favourite so far is Eastenders, because they have the most sexy character, who stupidly goes with that muppet Phil Mitchell.

His son is gay. Now he has come out of prison at least he knows it doesn't hurt that much and can be kind of fun!

To be fair to the Eastenders writers, they did show the negative side of smoking by killing off one of the soap's biggest chainsmokers, Pat, with cancer recently.
