I run over, kick it out of their hand, pin them to the ground, and offer them a packet of Nicolites. Like every good citizen would.

Seriously, the same arguments about it not making any difference for smoking to be modelled by adults have always been made. Presumably we are to believe banning cigarette advertising has done nothing?

If David Beckam became the new Marlboro man would it really have no significance?

I am far from an anti drug/drink/smoking killjoy. Quite like sex too.

The last thing I would like to see is a ban on these things being portrayed post watershed. I just don't feel their is an innocuous level of exposure.

Just see no need for a breakfast TV presenter to spark up whilst their colleague handles the weather forecast, nor for stories about grandfathers smoking all their lives then getting hit by a bus to take precedence over the more regular occurrence of people dying slow and painful, tragic deaths after a short life chain smoking.

Why not have presenters snorting coke on Loose Women? Let us not protect the innocent from the harsh reality of life, it weakens their resolve!

As far as taking responsibility for how our children grow up, caring about how the rest of society is behaving is all part of that. It is not practical for us mere peasants to buy islands and withhold all knowledge of whatever is outside the window. We can, however, make sure the window looks out over the nicer part of town for at least some of the day.

Do you not think you're going over the top? The thread is about smoking in a program that's based, badly, on what goes on in normal life. People in the street smoke so why should it be such a problem in this program?

Parents influence their children. If they don't want their children to see people smoking in East Enders/ Corrie/ any other tat TV program don't let them watch them. Why any parent would want their children to watch such brain melting bollox is beyond me anyway. Is it that the parents want to watch it and don't want the hassle of monitoring the fruit of their loins?

We are not the only influence on our kids. There is a reason you don't just let your kids go out with any old gang, and you like to know their friends and their friends' parents, their teachers, etc.

I am firmly anti smoking complacency, whilst I tolerate smoking when necessary.

The buck stops with us for all things in life, but we are all aware we are not the only role models out there.

Over the top is the only way to go on some issues.

There are companies with tens of billions invested in overriding what we would like for our children. Not a level playing field in my opinion, and that is here in a relatively affluent country. God help those parents in the developing nations struggling with these issues.

Custard is a service, not a business...

Do what you like with blancmange, angel delight, or tip-top, but for all that is decent and good, and don't burn down my plantation, leave custard alone!

Whats wrong with tip top?.
It allows you to eat cake thats gone dry.
I don't endorse eating dry cake pre watershed though.
