Bike now sold to a nice gent from Co. Wicklow, Ireland, who send on this pic. Nice to see it being used.
fantastic - my father had that exact 604XT and I had that exact 704XT until we sold the frame-sets and put the components onto Orange P7 and Marin team-ti frames respectively. I miss those Ridgebacks now I love all things retro MTB. In fact in the last year of its life I had my 704XT repainted metallic red by M.Steele Cycles - and I'd love to find it again as I love the ride of Tange Prestige frames (it was the larger version a 20" I expect, and I still have the frame no. recorded as M6C65754)@red_dread
Love this.
Just spent a very enjoyable 20 mins watching the restoration video. 100% feel the passion for these early Ridgebacks. You've done a great job with yours.
It's the 1989 model year after yours that triggered my passion for Ridgebacks. That yellow cover Freewheel Catalogue was a bible for my 15 year old self.....the prestige framed 604SIS and fillet brazed 605SIS were the poster boys of the 1989 range.
I remember someone having the white 602LX in school and seeing a 603SIS in the Freewheel shop in Norwich, but these two models were converted dream bikes that you didn't see other than in the pages of MBUK or MBi.
Fast forward to March this year....I finally score one of my most wanted......a very clean condition 604 SIS frame and fork. It took a while to source all the original components, but it's now 99% Freewheel Catalogue spec.

I'm also fortunate to have the top of the line Ridgeback 704XT from the 1990 model year.
The only model above this was the Merlin Titanium.

The one I want to complete? A 1989 605 SIS fillet brazed in 20" frame....I'm patient.... I've already been waiting 12 years for one to surface. Like the 604 SIS... Occasionally the planets align!
Cheers
