yeah your right, its due to the little lockring on the presta ones which covers the hole

Gave her a good reaming this evening
Only had to open the hole out by about 1.5mm.
Schraeder now fits like a glove

Why don't you just get a presta valve for goodness sake? Why weaken a rim?

Serious cyclists don't use Schraeder valves FFS.

I use presta for road and schraeder for off road, always have, probably always will

those plastic plugs you get on airbeds

the do come out quite often but at least you can blow your tyre back up yourself without carrying a pump around with you.
