Sending Bikes by Carrier etc.

Since my cheap carrier facility disappeared (anything anywhere £10) I've been a bit confused what to do for sending large items like boxed bikes. I've just been on Anyvan.com to get quotes and the cheapest so far is £30 Yorkshire-London which, to me at any rate, still sounds expensive. I know the buyer will pay ultimately but I'd rather get the best deal for them.

Any suggestions please? Parcelforce?

www.senditnow.com are who I've used recently (for bikes and computers).

Book through them, print off the labels they e-mail you, and Parcelforce collect.

Cheaper than going through Parcelforce direct.

Agreed, use one of the agencies, it's much cheaper, although having said that if sending overseas try citylink or the link direct (helps if you have a quote from one of the agencies with you when you ring).

I usually reckon on it costing £15-20 to send a full bike. FWIW I also have a policy (when selling bikes) that the purchaser organises collection, saves me having to do the running around for them.

Thanks for the quick replies. Anyvan are now down to £20 but the SendIt Now site seems to offer a £10.99 service which includes £2500 insurance. this seems very reasonable - if I'm reading it right!

Any feedback on them?

I have (or rather my mum has!) used senditnow to send stuff both within the UK and from the UK to spain. no complaints from me - so far so good!

Parcel Monkey are another agent that seem to come up with good quotes, City Link and Parcel Force, both 24hr delivery are usually the cheapest from the parcelmonkey site.

Obviously, you're always restricted by the size of the bike box and it can make quite a difference. I usually pay £15.99 +vat, but managed to squeeze a racer into a box the other day that went for £7.99 +vat.

No complaints here. Everything I've sent (x3 bikes and an Apple Powermac) have been delivered, in one piece and on time...

Used to go direct with Parcelforce, but paid lots more for exactly the same service.

Parcelmonkey
You can have a 15kg box 130x25x72cm and it will cost you a basic £7.49+VAT. This only offers you £20 insurance. An extra 14p gets you £50 cover, another £1 gets you £100, £2.50 £200, £4 £300 up to £1000
They use citylink nextday service which is fully trackable online.
