£850 sounds very expensive, but taking into account inflation things change a little.

£465 in 1990 is the same as £850 now

I *think* I read somewhere on the interwebs (More recently than that January 2010 blog entry) that they had changed their plans and the fillet-brazed frames were now being made overseas, due to cost etc.

The steel one looks way better than the Ti IMO, with the original Kili colour, smooth joints and the press-fit headtube.
