Santacruz Blur 4x

I had one of these for a long while and it was brilliant - as good as the hype suggested. Only changed it as I wanted to see if the hype surrounding the Five was true (it is). I've love another though... Had mine built up with all sorts - went through 140mm Thors, 160mm 36 Floats and settled on 150mm Revs. Had 1x9 on it and a dropper post etc and it did everything from long days out in Calderdale etc, trail centre blasts, 1 hour techno loaded stuff from my doorstep and a week in Verbier and coped with everything I threw at it...

I think this and another little hardtail will be all I need for a while, it's a great bike.
Of course I won't limit myself to just two though!

I love it, rides everything really well. I've basically eliminated the extra volume of the large volume aircan so it doesn't blow through the midrange badly.
With the Pikes on 140 it rides great, then drop them down 30-40mm and it rips around the pump tracks.
I've considered upgrading the forks and going 1x10 but right now I don't think I'll bother, why fix something that isn't broken.
I might try one of my other wheelsets on there, again nothing wrong with the Crossmax but they are a little more flexy side to side than my DTswiss and hope wheelsets.

Re:

Took the 4X to BPW at the weekend, loved it great fun.
The black runs beat me up a little would have been nice to be on a big travel bike but I didn't really need one!

Re:

She's now running the following spec:

  • Pike 454 coil with hard spring
    RP23 with 'custom' volume reducers
Hope mono 4 pots with bling red bores
DT Swiss 240 hubs with 819 rims
    New style Raceface Turbine cranks
    Easton Haven Bars and stem
    RS Reverb
    1x10 gear setup

Brilliant bike, keep thinking about changing it but then I go and have a weekend like the last one and there's no point. It does everything I need...

...so I got rid of the expensive bits on my hardtail; Transition Bank frame, dt swiss forks, etc. but then couldn't stop myself from building up an old knacker to thrash in the woods:

Funny what you can build up with spares, the 454's on the Blender have a regular medium spring in though and aren't anywhere near as nice as the set on my Blur.

Good stuff. Glad you're still enjoying my the 4X. They have such a great rep and it's a shame that they stopped making them.

I'm on the fence about BPW; the first time I went, I loved it but wasn't so sure the second time. The odd thing was that the weather was loads better second time round but the uplift seemed really slow. I was the other way round with Antur Stiniog which I was unsure of first time round but loved second time round (even if lots is way out of my skill range).
