Sales etiquette

I meant to say, be honest with your description. I wouldn't write things like, "I think he deliberately conned me". Stick to what you know / happened rather thank what you think!

I echo what's been said in the replies above:

If you're selling anything, then communication is key. If there is going to be a delay in sending something out, then let the buyer know as soon as possible. 99% of the time, the buyer will be absolutely fine about it and will appreciate the update. In the rare occurrence when they need the particular part, then offer a refund and both parties are happy.

If you're buying anything then make sure that you know when the seller intends to send it out, and make sure that you contact them if you haven't received anything 3-4 days after they said they'd send it. If you hear nothing back from them (and if you've paid via a regular paypal payment, not a gift), then open a case with Paypal and notify the seller that you have done so.

I once sold a set of wheels and believe it or not, because of one thing or another it took me almost 2 weeks to find a box to put them in. I kept the buyer updated every other day and they were fine :)

What's the etiquette re "name & shame" on the forum?
In general it's not really the done thing and it can cause more problems than it solves.

Have you contacted John or any of the Moderators about this?
We can sometimes intervene and push for a resolution if the buyer and seller can't first sort it out between themselves.

Using paypal gift does remove any protection from paypal, but in this instance by paying the fees, you would be able to take it to a dispute and more than likely get your money back.

There is some good advice about the importance of communication which I can only echo.
Perhaps this is also a good opportunity to remind everyone about this: --> **CLASSIFIED RULES & GUIDANCE**

I hope it all gets resolved soon.

Guys, I can shed some light on this. I can name and shame the person in question, it's me.

Firstly, can I apologise to all concerned for my delay in posting said components but due to my Hernia operation ( which I advised both parties about) turning into an infection and a week long spell in the Resus ward of Queen Alexandra hospital, my trips out to the post office haven't been too often.

I am sorry to have caused this witch-hunt and will be posting your bits tomorrow (I only left the house for the first tIme in 3 weeks today so you'll excuse me if I don't do it today).

As for the practices of naming, shaming and banning, please do John. I have no interest in continuing to be a part of this forum. I do not like what it has become. I sold my bikes at just the right time, before the elitists and the profiteers got a foot in.

There are some genuinely nice people on here who would help you out but unfortunately they've been usurped by the nay-Sayers.

I consider this an end to it (well, once Twister and Ishaw get their parts, I will). I would ask everyone else to please butt out. I'm sure there's a pseudo-karma bandwagon needs jumping on somewhere.

Dont let the whingers and the nay-sayers get the better of you dude...... its true that there is an element of that here, there ARE quite a few people like that here (I personally know of 4 people who no longer post because of people like that), but to be completely honest, the same is perfectly true for all the other forums that I have frequented over the past few years (with the exception of the VW Lupo forum... which is just full of kidz, lukin 2 drop der car in da weedz and fit a massif sereo innit  )

Its understandable given the situation that you have found yourself in with regard the illness and hospital time, that you would get offended when the "Nego-trons" as I like to call people like that, jump on the lynching bandwagon.... but you seem from your post above to be a level headed, reasonable guy... dont let the whingers drive you away and win!!!

Kudos for outing yourself and publicly apologising... get well soon

Right. As Paul says the ettiquette is to read the rules and guidance and go from there. We ask people contact a mod before posting such a thread although in the right situation they are effective.

Sorry to hear about this. With this in mind I would have expected the seller to cut you a little slack. On the flip given you had this coming up it might have been prudent to postpone your trading activites until after the operation.

Hmmmm. Given you've only been a member less than two years I'm not sure you're in a position to start saying what this forum and website is or isn't. I'll let you cool your heels, if you still want banning it's not a problem although it is irrevocable.
