Rocky Mountain Blizzard

Not the best year for the blizzard at all imho, bought this model from sjs cycles and no matter what spec I put on, it felt 'heavy' almost dead feeling. Very unlike all the other 853 frames I've ridden. A strange one :?

Maybe it felt heavy because it *was* heavy? Wouldn't be unheard of for a Rocky. A Blizzard was never a race bike, they're built to take a reasonable hammering and not break. How much did it weigh?

It was a strange one, it came as a full build with crappy deore/xl group with bomber mx fork. I swapped the lot out for m950 and a pair of p2's yet the ride just wasnt inspiring at all, where say a 1998 Kilauea is. Hard to put my finger on :?

I seem to remember my 2002 19.5" Blizzard weighing in at about 2.4 kg.
It never felt heavy though!

Same here, my 2003 Blizzard with the same tubing never feels heavy. It's a bomb proof frame compared to an Altitude, yes, but the additional weight isn't really taking away the responsive feel.

I guess it just depends on what your used to, my konas/IF's in the same tube set just felt lighter, or maybe it was my legs!

853 comes in various different gauges and tube thicknesses, and the particular design spec chosen will produce an end result with characteristics completely different from other 853 frames. My Rock Lobster 853 is far livelier than an Explosif 853, and yet the Explosif is built lighter than a Blizzard and many other 853 frames. Probably the all-time classic 853 frame, the Cotic Soul, is more at the Rock Lobster end of the scale. I only weigh 10 stones, and I prefer the Rock Lobster kind of spec, but if I was a lot bigger and a harder rider, I might well prefer a Blizzard and find the Lobster too sketchy.
