Roberts XK2

Great job, bike looks an odd shape, but that might just be cos I've been staring at small bikes recently.

don't think there's anything especially odd about the frame/ forks other than the tight clearances

It's big, lugged, and with a horizontal cross bar, and as you can see, set up for me, the seat post is quite low, and the saddle is forward.

Probably it's this that sets it apart from the familar tigged/brazed, sloping top tube, small frame/long seatpost set up that much more the norm for MTBs

I guess this is what is know as an ATB!

Too big for you.

Not sour grapes at all.

:D as pictured its a lovely fit for me, but maybe if i was ordeing a new one i would go a size smaller, but its not way off and its not stretched in the top tube. very comfortable for the old back

its ideal for bridleways, disused railway lines, to the pub/shops, dragging a kids trailer that sort of thing.

its a 20inch frame, iirc

Re:

Cracking job mate. Its come up really well 8)

Did you do anything special with the frame?

Those wheel are lovely too, been looking for a set like that for years... :?

Thanks mate. Didn't do anything that special, cleaned it with soap and water, bit of degreasing in the usual places, then used some "autogleam super resin polish" on it that I have had kicking about for donkeys years.

yes the wheels are very nice - bought them off here a few years ago but never quite had the right build for them, either period wise or OLN, but i think they fit this one very nicely, so happy to use them

yeah, that's turned out nice.

it almost looks like a road frame.

yeah i know what you mean, skinny tubes etc, and given its a 1990 build its odd that you cant get any tyre wider than a 1.7 in there without rubbing.

But its obvioulsy 26" wheels, cantis, bar mounted shifting etc

I asked Carl about this one too and he made the very good suggestion that i get the paint rub smart repaired, so will see about that down the line.

from what little i have found out, the XK2 was a response to the mighty Saracen Conquest, which was the top dog at the time

there is at least one other that's come through RB in recent years - a green campag beauty - it too was also outed in the ebay section and purchased by a member here.

I have PMed Joss, the buyer, he has picked up the PM but not heard back

here is the thread for the campag one - pics still up on ebay

Looks great. 8)

Don't know how you are finding the braking on the front but I have the instructions for that stem somewhere. Let me see if I can find them.

Here they are, with thanks to Makster.
