Fillet brazed off road adventure bike of unknown origin.

Oh it will absolutely work; it's just a bit of overkill for a dedicated Hite Rite braze on. I wonder if RBG is on to something with his suggestion
I'm hunting now for any examples of seat tube mounted dynamo lighting systems, it's definitely a possibility.
If anyone has examples please share.

If the frame builder wanted to fit a boss, he'll likely use something to hand - so I think it's a seatclamp boss for a hite-rite
For something less substantial like a light, a rack boss would be fine - but I don't think m5 would be adequate here.

This is lovely. Loving the mystery behind this frameset which gets us all discussing what it is/isn't.

Looking forward to seeing this progress. What are your plans for this build? I'm guessing your first plan is finding out what it actually is!!!

Lee Cooper for me too. People tell stories about frames from the midlands being delivered to Overburys, no one has said so but I have always been under the impression that Lee Cooper was the mystery builder.🥸
I've heard that Bromwich-built frames were used for some of the standard/off the peg touring Overbury's models, but never that atb/mtbs were from anyone other than Andy Powell's hand, certainly nothing custom/fillet brazed...

While I would love to know what it is, I accept that may never happen and bought it because I like the frame on its own merits.
When it arrives I'll assess everything, I like the colour and may look at repainting it the same again if it looks too far gone.

Initial plans involve a minty DX groupset and setting it up for off road bike-packing adventures.

I've seen a couple of posts on here and another forum that reference Andy Powell Lee Cooper making bikes for Overbury's in the early 90s, but it seems to be a rumour without any real evidence. You know what they say, where there's smoke...

Andy Powell owned and ran Overburys Cycles, Sussex Place Bristol after his father Arthur died (in the late 70s) with his mother Enid helping - until around 2011, when he gave it up in part i believe to family requirements.
Customer repairs ended up locked in the shop - I believe the police were involved in getting in there to retrieve some peoples bikes in the end.

His father had bought it off a Mr Overbury - it was a long established shop already.

Andy Powell did (or oversaw) the in house framebuilding during that time.

Fab! I'm glad someone on Retrobike bought this (Although I'm not sure who else would 😄 ) This is exactly the kind of unknown frame I love to buy, but it was too big for me, and every time I looked at it, it and my legs were the same size 😉.

My money was on a Roberts...but Overburys was running it a close second, either way intrigued to find out (if you do) and even more intrigued to see the build!!

Plus ... bonus shot of a Hite-Rite in its natural habitat. They can adapt to a wide variety of seat post environments - as long as they are rear facing.
