Its about 7mm either side at the front, a lot less at the rear, no more than 4mm! These tyres do quite suit it though as they have a rather dome shaped profile.
Looking like one of the last chances maybe for a decent dry ish ride before autumn takes hold and everything gets and stays wet for months, I got out the quick detailer and gave her one last going over as I knew there would be some muddy patches wherever I went, adjusted the seat height and off I went.
This bike is absolutely amazing to me, I think having a lot of NOS parts like the shifters, fr and rr mechs and the fact the BB headset and all brake components had barely seen any action and the modern cassette to that meant the experience of riding it literally was like going back in time and riding a brand new bike, gear changes are practically silent, brakes sharp and those tyres are superb, very fast rolling and grippy.
In terms of position on the bike I think I got the stem choice spot on for riding, any lower and id be hunched over too much and any shorter it would have been too twitchy. To say im happy is an understatement.
Is it the best bike ive ever owned? Maybe, but then the White Spider Ultra lite was as good from memory but the experience of riding this feels more special as its my build spec, and paint and decal choices. So id put it up there definitely along side the Mountain Goat Whiskeytown lite and Salsa A la Carte as the best riding, and looking bikes I own.
