Roberts Stratos-Elevated Chainstay-25th Anniversary.

Re: oops wrong section

I now finally had in my hands the last part of my Roberts trilogy and quite by chance I was even lucky enough to have mated the missing stem to the frame and fork

With over a year of waiting for the tube - and all credit to Roberts, the actual frame work took no time at all - the wait had given me time to think about paint. I guess people here have seen how fussy I can get over this and no way was I taking any chances with it.

I hated the colour it was bought with and to be fair, period correctness was something I wanted to take onboard, but given this model had "carte blanche" due to being custom order only, you could spec almost anything.

So I took the decision to keep it in its period style, but try to use a colour that would accentuate the fillet work and frame detail,

I wanted the paintwork to remain in keeping with the Roberts style whilst attempting to be a little contemporary but also to compliment the build direction and spec choices I wanted to take with its assembly.

So the decision to have it finished in Roberts Pearl White was taken, only this time I ordered some special order Glitter flake to speckle the frame with in Campagnolo Blue to match the Full European build spec

Re: oops wrong section

I have had to collect the Campagnolo over time and if I am totally honest, there were a few tough decisions in this respect too.....Brakes for example; to make the bike a suitable rider for me these days, the decision was taken to spec the slightly later Record OR cantilevers purely as they are more low profile than the previous efforts from Campag. (and I could at last sample a set, and a direct comparison to the Graftons on the Yeti.)

The saddle took some finding too; an N.O.S Selle italia Titanio with titanium rails.

And of course the Campagnolo clipless pedals (coming from a road background, for a time a lot of us attempted to use the Look road clipless pedals for off road use long before Shimano took up the off road clipless pedal system challenge Bitd).

Given the bike and the spec choices, it seemed fitting to me to source Campagnolos only attempt at clipless pedals, as an additional option for the build,

Re: oops wrong section

The main Roberts logo (Frame and Forks), Chas Roberts signature and Stratos logos are all airbrushed in colour matched Campagnolo blue.

The Campagnolo logo, championship head and seat badge are original decals all heavily clear-coated for an immaculate finish.

Its been an emotional journey, but all involved really have put their heart and soul into restoring what I personally consider a British Bike that needed to be saved.

There once were twelve.......we know of four.......this is ONE.

Re: oops wrong section

Would also like to thank Garry and Tim for all ther hard work, with the paintwork, airbrush work and decals.

I know im not easy to work with, and it wasnt an easy finish to create but you took on board its importance and significance to me and made an old romantic very happy, the finish is imho sublime.

Need to thank Pete for a lot of inspiration, Geoff Waugh, FTW, Trevor Burrows, And Colin Jeffery and also the team at NC and Gio.

Would also like to thank all the members who sold or donated parts which they didnt really want to part with, but did so for a good cause.
