Robert’s White Spider 1991

I didn’t do a build thread on this in the end but I thought I’d share the outcome.

I placed a wanted ad for a white spider frame a couple of months ago as I wanted to ride one at Malvern and luckily I was offered one.

I promised myself that I’d do the original build with only parts that I had. Can’t see that staying that way though.

The black walls will divide opinion but overall I think it looks great.

Agree with you here, the blackwalls suit it perfectly. Nice build, though the obvious question is why given you're running XTR, including the shifters, are you not using an 8 speed cassette?

I was going to upgrade to an 8 speed wheelset down the line. Unless that wheelset will accommodate an 8 speed cassette. Wasn’t sure

This is lovely!!, I tend to like black walls on red and purple bikes. (Although I don't always do this myself ) .

Smart bike. Looks very good and I think the black rims and tyres suit it. Reminds me a bit of the 91 Kona Explosif, which was a similar purple with black rims and tyres.

The Pace theme is cool and ties in well with the period - iirc some of the catalogue bikes were fitted with Pace forks.
Has it had a respray and new decals at some point?
Interesting that it is a Prestige tube set. My 93 White Spider is Columbus tubing so I guess they must have changed tubing supplier at some point.
