Rigida Chrina - big MISTAKE

I cannot get a tyre onto the 700c Rigida Chrina rims. Tried 3 different brands of tyre - 2 folding (Michelin Pro 3, Vittoria Rubino Pro) and 1 wire bead (Schwalbe Lugano).

Couldn't even get one side on. Took them to the bike shop and even they couldn't do it why I waited for 10 minutes and said they would charge 5 pound per wheel! (I declined) Must be terrible out on the road with a puncture.

Never had this problem with Open Pro's, MA3's, Planet X and DRC ST17 rims.

Forked out 140 pounds to have some nice sealed bearing track hubs laced to these damn Chrina's as well :twisted: :twisted: :twisted: :twisted:

Bloody hell, if you can't get Lugano's on something is seriously wrong. I use them for winter and they go on no prob with Mavics.

There is a thread somewhere about tyre/rim probs - i had huge probs with Wolber Alpine rims and any tyre - broke 5 levers and still the tyre remained off - i had to resort to metal levers - which i carefully used to get the tyre on. I would estimate that i had the tyre on until there was about 3cm horizontal below the rim - hard to explain this.

If the wheel was a clock face and i mounted the tyre heading on each side towards 12 it went on until 11 and 1. The bit that would not go on dropped down from 12 vertically about 3 cm from the bottom of the rim edge.

Metal levers is my option. Oh, and - NEVER AGAIN!

I've found variation in the same make rims. Swalbe tyres on my black bike fit fine. On the green bike it's a fight I dread!

Have you tried some VAR RP42500 tyre levers?

Its 640mm measured as best as I could.

The DRC St17 I have no problem getting tyres on is 633mm.

Its the bead seat that is 622 or 630. You'll struggle to measure that using a tape. But the 7mm difference between the DRC and the Rigida *looks* like you might have the wrong size rim. :/

Edit, just seen that the Chrina only comes in 622, BUT the rim walls are apparently significantly higher than normal.

Might be time to crack out the thin rim tape, push the beads further into the rim well and get a couple more tyre levers in stock..........

Michelin Pro 3 are a sod to get onto any wheel when they're new. My thought was also metal tyre levers and thinner rim tape.
