Any one know the year this bike was made.

The frame has no serial number on it (its not been ground off there just is'nt one).

531 frame. It has mountings on the fork and seatstays for the magura's.
Stronglight headset.
Red S Crank (not sure if this is a good one or not but its bloody light).
Magura rim brakes with Hydro-stop-mountain on them.
Rear Mech is DX (not shown).
DX Thumb shifters (not shown).

Thanks.

Mid 80's geometry and wheelbase - no U-brake so probably 85/86. Modern stickers though - looks resprayed, don't think it's 531.

Yep, 1991-2 Ridgeback decals on an older frame for sure. That said It looks very nice though, and unusual with having the magura mounts.. maybe a custom built job :?:

If it helps my old Nigel Dean was 531 throughout and had reynolds stamps on the bottom bracket shell :)

You are assuming a lot there, young lady - Thats a hell of a lot of work to respray the frame, put the magura mounts on and source decals.

That 'mid 80's geometry' lasted for quite a while. My research into 531 MTB frames uncovered a hell of a lot of 531 tubed frames like this - just because theres no U-brake means absolutely nothing, u-brakes hung round till 92.

I like it, those cranks ring a bell somewhere.

Reminds me of the top end Claud Butler Anteus thats on here on the site with its maguras and 653 frame.

It could be another Saracen, eh? Yeah? Saracen? It wouldnt surprise me at all - an early hydrotec model?

***edit***

I think its a Saracen, that colour looks original along with the front mech and chainset (where have I seen that before...??)

this Saracen has the same forks, canti stops and groove in the rear stay:

Mmmm cable guides on headtube that seams mid 80's,forks with magura bosses could be early 90's,sticker set doesnt look correct for the frame design.
Just my trhought though.
*Lowrider bosses through the fork blades thats different from LGF's forks i will check my killiflyer tomorow*

My '91 Hydrotech runs on std canti mounts (although guides are made to run the pipe), i don't think Saracen made a magura specific mount bike, could be wrong though.

problem is, nobody knows what Saracen made!

If this was a bespoke Magura high end bike, it would have cost a hell of a lot and wouldnt have sold in great volume.

.

Thanks guys, this is great.

Yep saw the pics on another thread when doing a bit of research.

The cable guides are on the headtube on mine but there are 2 sets on your down tube.

The seatpost and saddle arn't original neither are the wheels.

This pic is of what it looked like when it was bought.
