RetroRoadRide Series Rd 1: Cheddar Gorge ~ 08/03/14

@matthew71

Why don't you go ahead and organise one then, instead of criticising the efforts of others that can be bothered to do so.

Also some of us like riding our rusty old road bikes up and down hills.

If anyone wants to meet up in Priddy later in the day before we do the descent into Cheddar and do a few kilometres around Glastonbury Tor, Axbridge and the levels then I'm happy to organise that as an add on of 40km's or so.

lets find the steepest hill and try and ride a shagged out old bike up it.

:D PMSL - From my experience with retro rides on and off road, I thought that was exactly what it was about!

Brilliant - I will be chuckling to myself all evening over that one... And your reply Bugloss - when I read that its Daffyds voice in my head which makes it even funnier :D .

Put two more folks on the list, if we're feeling wreckless we'll have a crack at the special finish too. There is a cycle path up that, right?

Oh brilliant, there is an alternate finish that's not going to make you blow a gasket and it's one we would have climbed earlier in the day.

Send me a pm and I'll give you my number.
So far we have,

Bobbinogs
Daj
Grumpycommuter
Fluroforks +1
Bugloss

Anyone for the 40km's add on afterwards?

Uncle M. You can always join us at the top of Cheddar, do the descent and ride the flat bits and ride back up Cheddar at the end. 40-50km's

What time do you think we'll be done if we do the extra 40km?

Also, have I missed something or will that make it 130km in total?

I don't know, it all depends on how fast we do the first bit. It's 5hrs at about 20km/hr for the Mauler, so you'll need to add an extra 2 hrs if you want to add on the extra. I really thought about the extra as there may be some who don't think they are up to the Mendip Mauler, but still wanted to have a Cheddar taster.

So, I'll do both and whoever wants to do the extra can, or they can finish up by doing the Cheddar descent and one of the optional finishes and go straight back to Priddy.

I'm trying to make it a bit more inclusive as the Mauler is a bit of a toughie. I haven't made a route yet, but apart from the ascent of Cheddar at the end the second bit is on the levels and will be fairly flat. So about 5.30 pm finish for both bits if we trundle along and have a couple of breaks.
