DrS.

I don't post much using the DrS ID anymore.

Sometimes I like to argue with myself using my other three IDs.

Interesting.

So at one time you are intelligent, knowledgeable, witty, omnipresent and indefatigable.

I am undone.

I voted for 3 as I'm sure it goes on. No one has told me they have more then one account though and I'm not too bothered tbh. If people have done it to vote up their bike on botm then that's just plain sad. Hollow victory and all that.

I might start grassing though as I'd quite like that banner

You guys do not disappoint.
Thank you, John, for allowing this to continue.

There is nothing scientific about it, and I'm sure there is much room for error. I just wanted a sense of how rampant or rare it might be. I was once a global mod on a couple smaller sites, and it happened frequently, though it was hard to prove, even with ip addresses. Since many people were from Manhattan (dense population), and would post from work/school/home, all within one or two miles of each, but with different ip addresses, not to mention those with an anonymizer program.

I remember konamad and mazda; those were probably a couple of the worst cases, beyond voting manipulation.

Now the voting is hidden on BOTM the paranoia about vote rigging has reached deeper depths. I would be very suprised if anyone has used double identities to influence results or troll other RB's.

Those who say they know it goes on and who is doing it should start naming names.

id like prisoner number 5 ....if it was me actually posting,,,which it isnt...cods im some one else right now... 8)

Wasn't there a case a few years ago of a member being disqualified for rigging BotM with sock puppets?

Those who say they know it goes on and who is doing it should start naming names.
Do you think that's the best way to solve the problem?

... and different mobile devices, hot spots, and dynamically assigned addresses. It's always going to be easy to deny and hard to prove.

Then you have the case of a group of close friends all posting from the same computer while, quite innocently, pretending not to know one another, one of them typing for the other two. There's nothing in the rules about that, and it's been shown to be a strong alibi for any analysis based on IP address.

I know (with absolute certainty) of two cases of one individual with more than one user name. It's so easy to do that I'd be astonished if it's not widespread. If BotM is taken so seriously that voting blocks are organised by PM (and it is; and they are) there's not much to be done except rely on members' sense of fair play - and be disappointed.
