Retro counseling needed!

After a year of enjoying myself sourcing parts, refinishing frames and building two very nice bikes with a third in the pipeline I seem to be hitting a retro wall. I've been riding continuously for years now and have a nice modern full susser which goes everywhere with me. I treat it like crap and it rewards by riding fast and fun.. you just can't beat it. My retro rides are cool but lack the feel of a good modern ride and this is where my dilema begins..

Recently I've been thinking about selling my P7 and Kula to fund a cool modern steel hardtail. I'm thinking Cotic Soul, Charge Duster(prestige version) or the 2008 Kona Explosif. All bloody expensive (especially when I'm considering a DT Swiss fork aswell(I know.. not pace anymore, but things move on  )), but I know the finished product will be comfortable and awesome to ride.

Hmm what do I do, i'll still have a bit of retro.. but, well I really love my P7 and Kula... Arghhh, you just can't have it all.. (unless you buy a bigger shed... hmm..?) :?

HELP!!!!!! :(

split the retro bikes up into parts and scatter liberally about the house (frames go well under beds), then you still have them, but they aren't taking up space. Ready for another day when you feel like rebuilding

Hmmm, that could work.. although I need the money from the sale of such items to fund the rather large expense of a new bike... :( Thats why its such a big decision...

OrangeRetro - you aren't alone! I'm totally converted to riding modern. I love my Yeti ASR-SL and am now looking at a Cotic or Charge Ti hardtail. Wouldn't ever part with my Yeti FRO or Ultimate though. Too much love went into them and I still enjoy riding them on 'special' days.

I loved my modern bike. It was great through the winter, never missed a beat, the disc brakes were fantastic, and it was so comfy on long rides........

but the appeal of the Zaskar meant it had to go

Just remember the bikes you grew up with, and thats where your heart should be!

I think i'll always keep at least one retro ride.. I still want to finish the clockwork, but a lot of love went into the other two.. It all boils down to what will get used more modern or retro... and if I am going to stick to just the one.. which one will it be? is a 1999 'non tange infinity' clockwork retro enough?

By the way, great skills on the Ti Charge or Cotic.. have you seen the review in this months MBR? hmmm nice!! :D

Cool you won the Zaskar!!! I didn't realise.. nice one matey! Look forward to seeing the pics!

I reckon you are right, that is why the one retro ride I keep must stick to the good ol' days syndrome.. just which one?

Keep the one that means most to you mate. IMO '99 isn't retro but lets not start that debate again.

Yes but thats way OT for this forum. All I'd say is don't believe everything you read! The Cotic and Seven are much better bikes than their reviews.

as Kev said, you arent alone. personally I like to keep them totally separate. modern riders you can ride the sh,t outta & not worry about cosmetics & pristine retro that stay that way due to lack of use!
