Retro biker returns to retro biking.

JackN

Dirt Disciple
Hi, my name is Jack. I'm 59 and l live in the NW, Lancashire to be more precise. I used to cycle but preferred running to keep fit .
Now that l am older l still run but seeing my old bike quietly rotting away gave me an idea. So after spending far too much I've recently restored my Muddy Fox Courier (bought new in 1987 for £299.) However, it looks so good that l can't bring myself to use it!
Fortunately, an Orange Clockwork came up on ebay so l've bought that to ride. But, since browsing the forums and seeing the stunning Clockwork restorations l may return mine to as new condition as a winter project.
Hopefully l can get a few years of enjoyment out of mountain biking, both riding and restoring.
Thanks to gil for the excellent decals and to the powder coaters and wheel builders ( l'm not sure if l'm allowed to name them on the forum.)

Re:

Name away chap!

Good workshops always appreciated.

Have you got build threads for the two bikes?

Re:

Welcome back. Retrobiking is still here despite recent downtalk. Name names – it's always good to know the good workshops from the bad. Which year Clockwork did you get and what colour scheme and spec are you planning? Look forward to any documenting of your refurb.

Re:

Powder coating by Triple S of Bingley. Not cheap £86 for single colour frame and forks. But, l've used them for motorcycle parts, they do an excellent job, mask off all the threads etc. Wheels rebuilt with stainless spokes by Protool the servicing side of Beacon Bikes of Whalley Lancs.
The Clockwork is hard to date the serial numbers are difficult to read. It looks like 1993. Its full flouro orange with Shimano deore LX components. The stem is original Orange and the bars are straight but faded Hot Rod. Even the seat is original although somewhat worn. Basically l've fitted 2 Continental Mountain Kings, threre's a new 7 speed cassette waiting when l get home from lbiza (where this post is being written) a new chain and that's it.
Eventually l plan to have the frame done in the classic orange/white fade, clean and polish the original parts, new cables, reassemble and ride.

Re:

Welcome.

Triple S are ace and well worth the money, as is the Clockwork! I think I saw the one you got and if so it was a 1993/4.

Get yourself over to the NW section and go for a ride with them as they're a great bunch. :D

Re:

Good use of the 'R' word guys!

Beautiful morning here (west of Worcester) off out ASAP...

Re:

Got to love a clockwork! :)

Where abouts in Ibiza? I was there in early May amazing weather! We have been many times alot more to it than san an.

Re:

Santa Eulalia, East coast about 50 minutes ferry ride from Ibiza town. Weather was great but it doesn't take much to better the UK especially this Spring/Summer so far.
Saw lots of mtbs one organised group of about 15/20 all on the same bikes.
I wanted to hire one but we were only there for 7 days and Mrs JN wasn't too keen on the idea (not enough shops to keep her happy were we stayed plus she went twice last year, hen do and her cousins last holiday. Her cousin had terminal cancer.)
