Retrobike Rider
Hi.
I tried to skimp and foolishly bought a cheap air shock to replace the Fox 4R on my Kona Sex Three as nobody wants to know about servicing it - or indeed the slightly later 5R that I ran with for ages.
However, the cheap purchase has raised some questions that I hope you can help with.
The base of the can part of the Fox shock is 22mm where as the replacement (and looking at a modern RP23) is a lot narrower at around 15mm. This doesnt matter too much as this end unlike most today is at the bottom when fitted to the bike.
However the top end is more worrying - width 40mm with the bushes in 20mm without on the Fox-where again on the modern stuff the width without bushes is a lot less - 14mm on the cheap KS shock I got and the bushes that came with it only take the width to 36mm.
Hope your still with me
Solution is of course to use the original bushes - but the problem is there would then be potential movement of 6 mm side to side as the bushes would not be able to be pushed all the way in to the shock.
Am I on a lost cause to replace as the sizes have changed?
Is there a solution?
Or am I missing something obvious.?
Your help appreciated PLEASE
