Replacement Gear Shifts for Shimano Exage 500LX Groupset?

Joined the forum simply to find out a bit about an old bike, a Claud Butler Spectre from the late 80's. Original Thread Here: viewtopic.php?f=78&t=318692

I had intended to sell as it seemed beyond economic repair and I had little appetite to undertake the work. I thought I had sold it on eBay for the princely sum of £26 but my buyer appears to have evaporated.

Anyway, I have started to reconsider, I think I kinda like the old thing. The frame construction and biopace are quite endearing.

The problem is that the rear gear shift for the Exage 500LX group set is broken, what are the options for repair or preferably a replacement option?

I'm sure someone will have one of those shifters that they can sell you for peanuts, they're easy enough to come by and not particularly desirable. Put a wanted ad up and I'm sure you'll get a reply pretty quickly.

Failing that, any 7 speed shifter will be fully compatible.

But you will then need levers

Just get a wanted ad up, someone may well karma a set of them for postage
