I don't know why, but I'm always a little funny about having aluminium repaired, especially around an area such as a pivot point which would take a fair bit of stress.

Then again, I'm not a welder so I can't really comment on it much more than that

There was a swingarm for sale on this forum not so long ago. Do a search and I'm sure you'll find something.

It would also be worth posting something up in the Wanted section to see what's about. It's my own personal preference but I'd prefer to try to source another swingarm rather than get a damaged one repaired, although I'm sure jamabikes would do a very good job :)

it will never be as strong as the day it left the factory, but that is the problem inherent with aluminium bikes. aluminium just isn't a good material to make a bike from.

That's what I thought. Didn't want to say anything though because I could have been wrong!

its very easy to weld aluminium wrongly. luckily i have a very fancy pants tig welder which lessens the effect of welding.

There is a lot of talk about fixing cracked proflex's on the iriders forum - I seem to recall that being a fairly common failure point :-(

A user called 'shovlen' (sorry if I slept that wrong) is a very experienced ally welder and proflex fan - he has posted great info advice including rod selection etc 8)

He also posts on here, add proflex into the thread title - I am sure he will be along soon ;-) 8)

thanks for the input so far,

wadsy said he will pop a photo in this thread later so you can see what i am talking about.

it would be a shame to see this bike retired to the scrap heap as it has potential to look lovely after a good polishing and some new kit.

cheers

what sort of money would it cost for the welding work?, then i presume it would have to machined to the correct tolerance for the pivot spindle.

cheers
