Removing Cinelli Milky Anodising

I've just bought some reissue Cinelli bars and the 'milky anodised' finish looks awful. It's virtually white - nothing like they used to be and nothing like my 1A stem in the same 26.0 size. Don't understand why they should do such a thing, but still a solution must be found. Has anyone tried polishing the anodising off? A shiny finish would be much more appropriate for my build. I have powerdrill/polishing mops/compound/autosol/elbow grease etc to hand.

Any advice appreciated.

I too had the same problem, the way i got around it was to start with 600 grid wet and dry to remove most of the milky haze. then 1200 grid to remove the deep scratching then a lot of polishing with solve autosol. Hope this helps.

Re:

This is around on a couple of posts at the moment. If you search removing annodising on RB there should be a few links.

Basically, you need a pack of Oven Pride, oven cleaner. Pour into a plastic bowl and brush over your stem keep moving it around with a brush. Same with where you want to remove the annodising on the handlebars. It will start turning a milky white colour and will need about 10 mins to soak. Then you can wash it off, if there is still some annodising left just repeat. After that it will polish up like normal aluminium.

Best to wear gloves and glasses its nasty stuff :)

Thanks both - by chance, I have some Oven Pride, so I've just done my bar ferrule and very effective it was too. A touch more polishing and it's good to go.

Muchos gracias
